We engage communities in artistic and cultural expression that tells their unique stories and serves as the basis for dialogue, interaction and a shared understanding of Los Angeles.

OUR PURPOSE: What We Do

  • Produce community-driven art programs, centered on youth and community leadership development.

  • Work with community partners to educate, empower and enrich neighborhoods, promoting greater understanding, engagement and connectedness through artist-led storytelling initiatives. 

  • Create pathways for institutional partners to make deeper, longer-term investments in under-resourced communities.

The Board of Directors of LA Commons exists to ensure that the organization has the resources, tools, strategy, and oversight needed to succeed at its mission. 

BOARD ROLES - We are looking for Directors with expertise in:

  • FUNDRAISING: To make connections with potential supporters, engage in public advocacy, and contribute to development activities to generate the resources needed for the fulfilment of LA Commons’ vision and purpose through its operations and programs.

  • BANKING AND FINANCE: To ensure that all assets of LA Commons are being used in accordance with the stated goals of the organization, and that financial and operational policies are aligned with and adhere to state and federal guidelines.

  • HUMAN RESOURCES: To ensure that all LA Commons employees are well-supported and employment policies are aligned with and adhere to California state guidelines. 

  • NONPROFIT GOVERNANCE: To ensure a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance.

  • LEGAL (IP, Nonprofit Tax, Employment): To provide oversight that ensures that LA Commons complies with all applicable laws across our different areas of work and supports new opportunities for investment in the communities we serve.
