Staff Spotlight: Kaitwan Jackson

Meet Kaitwan Jackson (he/him/his), Program Manager - Promise Zone Arts, South LA at LA Commons! Kaitwan is from Washington, DC and has been working at LA Commons since April 2022.

What brought you to LA Commons?

I came to LA Commons because I was inspired by our organization's work bringing together folx across LA, especially within South LA. Having not grown up in LA, I am always interested in learning more about the place I now call home, and at LA Commons, I recognized the unique opportunity to both facilitate engaging programming, but also to connect and be in conversation with the community to make everything happen.

What has been your favorite part about working at LA Commons?

My favorite part of working with LA Commons is the connections. Whether these connections are with co-workers, partner organizations, artists, community members, etc., they are endless, and each one full of its own special magic. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have randomly ran into someone I have first connected to through LA Commons.

Do you do anything outside of work? If so, please describe!

I dance with Lula Washington Dance Theatre, and I model. I also love to take walks - they usually last anywhere from 1-2 hours daily - so it's quite possible to spot me on a walk around LA.

Where's your favorite spot in LA? Why?

One of my favorite spots is Vegan Playground, which is a vegan night market with amazing food and non-food vendors. They have a location in both the Arts District and West Adams.

What are you listening to/watching/reading right now?

Listening to: The Body Keeps Score by Bessel van der Kolk (audiobook) & SOS by SZA

Watching: Abbott Elementary, The Watcher, & Interviews of my favorite authors

Reading: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

We’re so happy to have Kaitwan on the LA Commons team. Look out for future upcoming staff spotlights to meet our other team members!
