We are very excited to announce our partnership with Getty on PST ART: Art & Science Collide as a Community Hub partner! Titled We Are The Harvest, our project takes inspiration from famed scientist and artist George Washington Carver, who believed deeply in the power of the natural world to improve our lives. In this spirit, We Are The Harvest, centers on growing food as a creative act that not only provides sustenance for the body, but also empowers the spirit, giving individuals and communities the wherewithal to address the complex issues of our time.
What does that mean? We’re engaging South LA in PST Art programming, and we are the only Community Hub partner focusing on this important area in the region. Our team looks forward to identifying and uplifting agricultural, environmental, and food justice initiatives while also furthering the development of community-connected artists and youth. Next summer and fall, LA Commons will roll out community-based programs led by local artists including story-gathering sessions, educational workshops with guest speakers and design processes where stories and learnings are transformed into dynamic works of art.. As always, we’re doing what LA Commons does best: engaging communities in creative expression and activating change for the better.
With all the excitement around PST Art 2024, we’re kicking off our annual fall campaign, South LA Stories Are Our Treasures, to show how South LA has always been and will continue to be hub for innovation, dreaming, and creativity. That’s why until the end of the year, we’ll be featuringSouth LA based artists, organizations, culture bearers, and leaders who are actively working at the intersections of art and science, the 2024 PST Art theme. We also intend to raise $15,000 by the end of the year! Supporting LA Commons this year means supporting more opportunities for artists, youth and community members, particularly in South and Central LA. Be part of the change with us and make a tax deductible contribution today!
