Our Cultural Treasures of South LA Team, in partnership with Esperanza Community Housing and L.A. Grit Media is proud to announce the Second Annual South Central Film Festival at the famed Cultural Treasure, Mercado La Paloma! Culture Treasures of South LA will have a special screening and panel discussion with some of South LA's most beloved Cultural Treasures at famed Cultural Treasure.
We’ll be present on December 9th. Don’t miss our screening at 3-4pm! We’ll also be sharing an art activity and sharing information about Cultural Treasures from 2-3pm as well as 4-5pm.
The South Central Film Festival aims to bring visibility to the beauty, strength, and wisdom in communities of color by amplifying emerging voices of Indigenous, Black, Brown, LGBTQIA2S+, immigrants, and people of all abilities. Recognizing that storytelling is medicine and a tool for cultural preservation, the South Central Film Festival is dedicated to promoting narratives that inspire healing and radical change.
This year the film festival will be at a Cultural Treasure, Mercado La Paloma. Mercado la Paloma is an oasis of traditional food, culture and community that more than fulfills the vision of the late founder, Sister Diane Donoghue, a passionate champion of the community she called home. This dynamic hub and beloved South LA institution, buzzing daily with activity, is a testament to her spirit and a true example of community investment in action. We are so excited to join the South Central Film Festival this year! Click the link below to learn more!
