This past weekend, at Willowbrook Art Hop at Magic Johnson Park, our community engagement program “We are the Harvest,” part of Getty’s PST Art and Science Collide, provided attendees at this past weekend’s Willowbrook Art Hop with the unique opportunity to make fruit and vegetable sculptures. Children and parents crafted delights from the garden – strawberry, avocado, or watermelon – out of brown paper bags and tissue paper! Next to us, our program partner, Willowbrook Community Garden, shared information about propagating seeds and ways to use herbs like rosemary for cooking and as medicine. In alignment with our theme of inviting community members to strengthen their relationship to the land by building a relationship with Willowbrook Community Garden, we provided everyone with a Fresh Fruit cup!. Hope to see you at our next “ We are the Harvest” event!
Speaking of Getty, we’re excited to introduce Danielle Perez, our Getty Marrow Community Engagement Intern here at LA Commons! Danielle is a passionate advocate for community involvement and has joined our team through the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program. Currently collaborating closely with our partnerships team, Danielle is making a significant impact on our organization. She was front and center at our activation at Willowbrook Art Hop!
“My deep-rooted care for using arts to build community connections is what drew me to the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program and LA Commons,” shared Danielle.
We’re incredibly grateful for the Getty Foundation’s support of the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program. This invaluable initiative provides college students from underrepresented communities with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the museum and visual arts sector.
