Mona Park Mural Arts Project
A project of LA Commons
LA Commons is searching for a Lead Artist to work with a core Youth Arts Team (Age 15-25) to collect community stories, and to design and create small murals for the interior of the Mona Park Recreation Center. LA Commons develops artistic and cultural projects that reveal the unique stories of L.A.’s Neighborhoods and engage visitors through cultural tours. Workshops will take place on a weekly basis at Mona Park Recreation Center.
The Lead artist will lead a team of Youth Artists (age 15-25) who will be paid a stipend for their work. LA Commons will coordinate project partners, supply acquisition, and recruiting the Youth Arts team. The workshops will take place at Mona. There is a separate supply and printing budget. The role of the lead artist is to lead youth arts workshops, participate in story gathering events, conduct a design process, and lead the painting of the murals. Painters and printmakers are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Role the Lead Artist/Designer in this project will be:
To participate in story/image gathering process and events with the group to inform the designs for the murals
To mentor the Core Youth Arts team to foster youth in the development of skills in visual art and design
To lead the team in the design finalization and painting of the murals
Lead Artist Qualifications:
Experience in visual arts and public art
Experience working with youth and community
Familiarity, experience and connection to Willowbrook community
