Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center
Join The Music Center and LA Commons for a day of dreaming, exploration, artistic expression and celebration as Jerry Moss Plaza is transformed into an art installation built upon the community’s dreams for the future of Los Angeles. A celebration of our collective visions for a brighter tomorrow, Creating Our Next LA features an interactive art installation, a participatory procession, poetry and artmaking workshops, a dance circle and community/voter resources.
About the Installation
Over the past two years, Creating Our Next LA has united the communities of greater Los Angeles through art and participatory events that shed light on Angelenos' hopes and aspirations for the future of our great city.
Through shared personal stories, surveys, and artwork, the narratives that evolved from the events share a common vision for a more united, just, sustainable, and healthy Los Angeles. The design for the centerpiece installation translates our visions into a celebratory work of art that commemorates hope for a vibrant future.
Dream in Ribbons installation mockup by M/PAL/ Studio
Inspired by the community’s collective vision, Dream in Ribbons reflects a parts-to-whole concept where individual ribbons (over 12,000!) celebrate the diverse voices of Angelenos. In unison, the ribbons create a vibrant composition of color and texture designed to dance in the wind.
Reminiscent of a grove of trees, the installation invites you under a festive canopy to contemplate your wishes for our great city. In the center of the “grove” lies a communal ring composed of multi-colored ribbons inscribed with the wishes of Angelenos for Our Next LA. Symbolic of prayer flags, the wishes are carried in the wind and shared with all of Los Angeles.
