Communications Coordinator

Job Title: Communications Coordinator 

Reports to: Development and Communications Manager

Status: Hourly, non-exempt, part-time, regular, health insurance eligible

Compensation: $20.00-$24.00, dependent on experience, 20-25 hours per week

 

About LA Commons

We engage communities in the creation of art for public spaces that tells their unique stories and serves as the basis for dialogue, interaction and a better understanding of Los Angeles. Through collaboration with local partners who have built deep wells of trust, we leverage art and cultural approaches to create positive change. 

 

Since 2002, we have worked with over 1,000 artists, trained and mentored over 3,000 youth artists, and engaged over 35,000 community members in collaboration with scores of partners in neighborhoods across Los Angeles County. Headquartered in Leimert Park, we are committed to investing in resilient networks of youth, artists and community partners in Central and South Los Angeles. 

 

Position Overview

Communications Coordinator is integral in supporting the success of all communications  activities and a key member of the core team of this grassroots, collaborative, mission-driven, non-profit culture organization. LA Commons engages communities in the creation of art for public spaces that tells their unique stories and serves as the basis for dialogue, interaction and a better understanding of Los Angeles. Through collaboration with local partners who have built deep wells of trust, we leverage art and cultural approaches to create positive change. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining the LA Commons website and provide input for the biweeklynewsletter. With the guidance of Executive Director and Director of Strategy and Operations, participate in development of marketing and communications goals and strategies

  • Support the development and maintainance of the weekly communications calendar 

  • Support the design of digital and print marketing materials as needed 

  • Coordinate & post marketing, communication vehicles digital and print, including newsletters etc. 

  • Support the creation and distribution of the regular newsletter and blog posts, currently every other week and report on newsletter response (open rate, click through, etc…)

  • Coordinate community engagement, marketing and press for public events and workshops 

Additional tasks as assigned by the Development and Communications Manager

Skills, Knowledge, or Other Requirements

  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team while maintaining a high level of efficiency and professionalism.

  • Proficiency with G-Suite including Google Drive (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides). 

  • Proficiency in Canva or other related design tools

  • Proficiency in Social Media management tools, 

  • Experience with Wix a plus

  • Highly organized and excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong writing and editing skills 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with a wide variety of people, nonprofits, and companies.

  • Strong personal diplomacy, including a highly professional temperament and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Commitment to cultural equity

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
