What’s Playing at the Del Mar?
A neighborhood council partnered with the Chamber of Commerce to create a film that uses the story of an old theater as a symbol of revitalization for the neighborhood. The film subsequently screened at the old theater.
Our goal was to document the history of the Del Mar theater as a way of telling the story of the neighborhood. With the documentation of that story on film and the screening of the film in various contexts those living in the neighborhood and beyond will have a better understanding of the neighborhood. We went into the project with the belief that telling the story of the neighborhood through the eyes of residents would engage them in the process of planning for its future. We are still working at this goal. The film has definitely increased pride in the neighborhood. Translating this increased pride into volunteer time commitments is the next step.
