Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks

What a day!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who helped with and took part in the 6th Annual Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks. The Procession was magical as a lone masked figure beckoned the crowd forward with his flute, and drummers led the way followed by traditional artists, village elders, youth and community members. This year’s theme “My Brother’sKeeper” and two of the honorary ancestors were Muhammad Ali and Marcus Garvey.

A Queen Mother’s Dance honoring our community elders kicked off the music festival, followed by performances from Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Torre Brannon-Reece & Everything With Soul, Dembrehbrah West African Drum & Dance Ensemble, Oblinyanko Drum and Dance Ensemble, S.H.I.N.E Muwasi, Nzingha Camara and te Kouman Kele African Dance & Drum Company, and our headliner the very talented ADAAWE.

In between the great music and the amazing dancing, Senator Holly Mitchell came to lend some kind words and support.
