LA Commons helps L.A.’s diverse neighborhoods give voice to their unique stories through community-based arts programs. Created by local emerging artists, these projects express the cultural and historical essence of the communities.  With our Trekking LA and Found LA programs, LA Commons introduces visitors from other parts of Los Angeles to these arts projects, and to the food, music and cultural history of the communities.  Through these inter-connected programs, LA Commons educates, empowers and enriches neighborhoods, while promoting greater understanding, engagement and connectedness for all residents of the city of Los Angeles.

We are seeking an energetic, passionate, innovative and detail-oriented development professional to support our efforts to cultivate individual donors and to produce fun events aimed at attracting and engaging more people in our mission.  Key in the mix of duties is implementation of our tour programs as a mission driven activity that also lends itself to donor cultivation.  Reporting to the Executive Director, the ideal candidate will have experience in corporate and individual fundraising and events planning and implementation.  This staff member will work with the Executive Director to manage and develop the portfolio of sponsors and donors as well as serving as the main point of contact for all operational and programmatic aspects of our events.  With this role in mind, he or she will spearhead the creation of the annual fundraising calendar including identifying opportunities to fundraise from a variety of sources, with an emphasis on individuals; working with the administrator to set the budget and coordinating all aspects of events including sponsorships and guests. The Development Manager will also be required to effectively work with other fund development team members including other staff, board members, volunteers, and vendors.  Specific duties include:

  • Work with Executive Director and other team members to create a development calendar.
  • Identify potential donors through analysis of individuals that have come in contact with the organization through tours and other programs and research of new potential donors.
  • Maintain donor database management system and manage donor mailings, emails and event invitation lists.
  • Work with the Executive Director to prepare for donor meetings
  • Track relationships with corporations and individuals.
  • Develop or work with staff members to identify activities and events supportive of deeper engagement and commitment to L.A. Commons.
  • Support the Board with their fundraising outreach, i.e. gathering board contacts and supporting board sponsored events.
  • Define event goals, messages, and implementation timelines; and target and recruit potential attendees.
  • Develop collateral materials and coordinate the marketing of each event.
  • Support volunteer committees.
  • Create event budgets, track expenditures and manage contractors.
  • Execute follow-up strategies.
  • Support the creation of content for the website, facebook, twitter, and other printed collateral.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Four years of individual donor development and event planning experience.
  • Detail-oriented and able to keep accurate and up to date records.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Sales Force (Patron Manager) or other like donor management system as well as Microsoft Programs including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles and the local funding community.
  • Flexible with excellent initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.

Flexible Hours. Salary commensurate with experience.
