LA Commons helps L.A.’s diverse neighborhoods give voice to their unique stories through community-based arts programs. Created by local emerging artists, these projects express the cultural and historical essence of the communities. With its Trekking LA program, LA Commons introduces visitors from other parts of Los Angeles, as well as tourists from outside the region, to these arts projects, and to the food, music and cultural history of the communities. Through these inter-connected programs, LA Commons educates, empowers and enriches neighborhoods, while promoting greater understanding, engagement and connectedness for all residents of, and visitors to, the city of Los Angeles.
LA Commons is looking for someone with an interest in understanding cultural tourism and marketing the cultural assets of LA’s neighborhoods. This person will develop skills for working with cultural organizations and community members of diverse backgrounds, gain an understanding and first-hand knowledge of the assets and challenges of culturally rich Los Angeles neighborhoods, and learn about the day-to-day functioning of a small arts organization.
The Marketing Intern will implement online and offline marketing strategies for the seventh season of LA Common’s cultural tourism initiative, Trekking LA: Local Adventures in a Global City and for other programs of the organization. These strategies will include expanding our system for generating website content from neighborhood participants and using social networking tools to generate buzz and attendance.
