Utility Box Beautification Helps bring Art to the Streets of Palms

Over here at LA Commons, we have been working hard since December on a collaborative project to complete the beautification of utility boxes in the Palms neighborhood of LA. We have teamed up with high-schoolers from Hamilton High School and local artists Diana-Sophia Estrada and John Trevino to bring the utility boxes of Palms to life with colorful art. Our very own Beth Peterson has been going out to Palms each Sunday for the past 10 weeks to work with the kids and the artists, and they have seen incredible support from the neighborhood. The process begins with cleaning and whitewashing the boxes, followed by the outline and then painting of the mural designs, each of which were approved by Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson and the Palms Neighborhood Council. At the end of the project, a total of 10 utility boxes in the Palms neighborhood will be completed.
