One of 30 tours led by trained neighborhood docents throughout the summer
On Saturday, June 9, 2012, the non-profit L.A. Commons (www.lacommons.org)—with the mission to connect people across Los Angeles’ vast metropolis through the artistic, social and cultural projects that celebrate the unique stories of L.A.’s neighborhoods—will continue with its sixth series of Trekking LA tours. This year the tour guides, rather than being staff of LA Commons, are a cadre of trained neighborhood docents from across the city.
Elson introduces participants to East Hollywood through a multi-sensory, multi-cultural tour of the Other Hollywood Blvd, from Western to Vermont Avenue. Go from Thailand to Armenia and from Aline Barnsdall’s Roaring ‘20s era to today. Meet at the Metro Red Line Hollywood/Western Station at the southeast corner of Hollywood and Western (LA, 90027) at 1pm. The Tour will end at 3:30Pm at the Metro Red Line Vermont/Sunset Station and consist of approximately 1 ½ miles of walking mostly flat terrain, however, there is a 140 foot stair climb to access the top of Barnsdall Park.
It is highly recommended to take public transit (Metro Red Line) to Hollywood/Western. Metro tickets are $5.00 for all day, $1.50 general or $.25 senior one train/one way. There is street parking or an underground parking structure available at the Ralph’s/Ross at Hollywood & Western. Bring change in case there are meters. Arrive early to allow for parking.
Info and signups for the tour can be found at: https://lacommons.secure.force.com/ticket. LA Commons seeks to connect communities across the L.A. landscape through quality interactive experiences, encouraging people to (re)discover and learn about the various neighborhoods they pass by on the freeway everyday.
Trekking LA. is supported by the California Arts Council, The GoldHirsh Foundation and The California Consumer Protection Foundation.
WHO: In the sixth season, Trekking LA Tours have guided hundreds of people on walks in Los Angeles’ culturally rich and undiscovered neighborhoods to experience the art, stories, food and wonderful people found there. L.A. Commons, a project of Community Partners, works in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles, facilitating artistic processes, open to all, that result in highly visible public art projects that tell dynamic neighborhood stories. L.A. Commons builds community by validating the importance of local narratives, enhancing the sense of belonging felt by a broad range of stakeholders and encouraging stronger ties between the people and places of Los Angeles.
