Reflections on 2011

Unbelievably, 2011 is nearing a close. At LA Commons, we’ve had a great year with many exciting programs and significant organizational growth to go with it. Our most exciting endeavor is our partnership with USC and CRA/LA to install 200 banners in the neighborhoods surrounding the campus to herald the opening of the Exposition Line. This is our second project in this vein as last year, we worked with the Metro Expo Authority to design for banners in the Crenshaw community which also will celebrate the opening of the Expo Line. In all, we had the wonderful opportunity to work with 11 great artists and 56 youth to realize these two projects. Additionally, we launched our Found LA Festival of Neighborhoods with 13 tours across the city including one given by Councilman Eric Garcetti. It was an exciting day and to get a flavor, watch the video. On the organizational front, we have added three new staff members! Heather Hoggan is our new administrator, Sarah Chang is the community arts program assistant and Maidel Luevano is our cultural development manager. Find out more about these capable ladies in our staff section. We are so thankful for the opportunity to do this work that we love due to the generous support of many foundations, corporations, government agencies and individuals not mention our partners in all the neighborhoods where we work. As we enter this holiday, we are counting our blessings and wishing everyone in the LA Commons extended network blessings of the own during the holiday season and into the new year. We look forward to connecting with you in 2012.
